We are looking forward to another fun and exciting season. Thank you for your support. The goal of MVYH is to teach the exciting game of ice hockey in a safe, competitive and fun environment.
We emphasize the importance of being a good teammate and displaying good sportsmanship.
The squirt 2 team played a very competitive Duxbury team Saturday and battled to a lead then held on to win 4-3. The first period was indicative of this closely matched game. After some good chances were denied by Dux's rangy, brave goaltender, Jake Cleland gathered the puck in the right wing corner, beat his defender, went behind the net, and put a perfect pass on Alex Walsh's tape. Walsh, who must have been channeling his inner - Espo, immediately found an open corner of the net to give the Vineyard the lead. Duxbury tied it up a couple minutes later, as tender Riley Sylvia got beat by a rebound from in tight; a no-chancer. Cleland struck on his own next time, after graham Stearns made a nice play by keeping the puck in the zone then chipping it to Jake, who wheeled out front alone on the tender. Clelands shot snuck thru the tender with enough energy to cross the line, but not enough to hit the back of the goal. Still, count it!
The Vineyard took a two goal lead when Mikey Wallace scored when he fired a seeing eye shot from the blue line. Dux's wouldn't quit as they made it a one goal game mid way thru the second period after some defensive confusion by the Vineyard. Then the ACC line, Alex Walsh, Charlie Lakis and Caroline Kelleher, worked their way onto the score board again by swarming the net with multiple shots and rebounds with Caroline Kelleher banging home Alex and Charlie's rebound. Duxbury batted a final tally past Sylvia but it was too little too late as the final count was 4-3 in the Vineyards favor.
